Botetourt County DAR honoring America 250 with a Legacy Project

Details: Commissioned Artwork depicting Botetourt County militia heading off to the Battle of Point Pleasant from in front of the Fincastle log courthouse, with the mountain landscape in the background as their women and children say their goodbyes. This artwork will be prominently displayed in the newly constructed courthouse by order of the court, with the stipulation that our Chapter retain rights to the artwork if it is ever removed from display.

About the Artist: Dale Watson is a historical and architectural illustrator as well as a fine artist. He lives in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. His renderings and illustrations are a blend of traditional and digital media. He strives to use the best qualities of each to produce work that stands out for his clients. He can produce both loose concept sketches and finished presentations. In his fine art, he enjoys working in watercolor, acrylic, and oil.

Artist’s Experience: Dale is the artist for The American Revolution Experience, which is a collaboration between the American Battlefield Trust and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Throughout the site, visitors will find custom illustrations by South Carolina-based artist Dale Watson. In creating his unique art, Watson used historical

descriptions, images, and other resources to make portraits for each figure highlighted on the site and for larger scenes to show events during the 18th century. If no image or description existed of a figure, Watson tried to represent what they might have looked like by researching their background and details, such as what they would have worn and carried during this period of history.

America 250th Committee Notes: Our committee plans to engage in ongoing fundraising efforts, along with grant applications, to ensure the funds are raised to meet the needs of this project. In addition, our Botetourt County Chapter wants to ensure we leave a lasting legacy that our members will be proud of for years into the future.
